vipassana theravada
The instruction is unglamorous and exact: when walking, know that you are walking; when standing, know that you are standing; when sitting, sitting; when lying down, lying down. From there it extends through the parts of the body and the breath. It asks for no special time and no special place — it is the plainest possible answer to the question of where attention should be. Given in the Kāyagatāsati Sutta (Majjhima Nikāya 119), which treats knowing the body as a full path rather than a preliminary.
